London and Cyprus Homes TRNC Property Awards
On June 6th 2008 the entire team of London and Cyprus Homes attended the prestigious TRNC property awards dinner. London and Cyprus Homes' Managing Director, Stephan Menzies, proudly received the developer of the year award from the hands of his one time partner, now Mayor of Nicosia, Mr Cemal Bulutogulari and the Honourable Mr Ferdi Sabat Soyer, the Prime Minister of the Turkish republic of Northern Cyprus.
As a further award for the best development for Cyprus Hills Mountain Village was presented by the highly respected elder statesman, founder and first president of the TRNC, Rauf Denktash, nobody suspected that the long walk across the swimming pool area to the podium would be repeated by Stephan Menzies and his team a further three times.
However, Mr Denktash went on to present the best Golf Development award for the Lanterns project at Kara Agac, the best luxury Villa for No 1 Cyprus Hills Mountain Village and the best luxury development for Cyprus Hills Mountain Village.
To receive the final award Mr Menzies invited the whole of his very impressive team to the podium; Ismail Ziya, construction engineer and Turker Aktak, architect of the firm A & Z limited, Ahmet Celebi, contractor, whose company is Sedas Construction to whom he gave credit for their dedication to perfection and willing eagerness to fulfil his own personal vision of excellence in building design which contributed in no small way to achieving the recognition of the judges. He thanked customers and competitors for their generosity in congratulating London and Cyprus Homes on their achievements and he congratulated Mehmet Kozansay, Mark Snelson and Roy Ozwick for hosting a magnificent event that shone a spotlight on the TRNC giving it the opportunity to show the world that on the beautiful island of Cyprus property development of the highest standard was achievable.
Mr Menzies, a chartered surveyor who built a laudable reputation in London and the Home Counties for his foresight in the spotting of Brown Field sites at home and abroad their development potential and for presenting his vision to both seller and buyer in order for developers to complete some of the present day London and Home County' landmarks in house building and community facilities, congratulated other winners of awards and asked them to be proud of the TRNC property market and continue to improve and inspire others to build only the very best on the island.
In an interview with the press Mr Menzies stressed the need for government intervention to insist on European-style planning and building regulations that would prevent the proliferation of unsightly high density developments that constitute a scourge on the face of what could be the most beautiful Mediterranean resort of all.
He claimed that Northern Cyprus could already be the most popular second-home and holiday resort for both western and eastern Europeans were the cost of flights into Northern Cyprus super modern Stanstead-type airport at Ercan more in line with those of other destinations. In spite of the current embargo on direct flights there is a constant flow of tourists and ex-pat residents from and to the UK and other European destinations who have no difficulty getting to the TRNC from Paphos and Larnaca, the other two airports in the south. Every year more and more people arrive from all over Europe to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to see for themselves that much of the negative propaganda put out about the TRNC over the past 30 years has no foundation in fact.
For my part; Northern Cyprus has become my home I have fought every adversity here over the past six years and invested millions of pounds to realise my vision. This award night is for me the fulfilment of my dreams. It shines the light on Northern Cyprus that it truly deserves. It confirms the vision I had when I first came here in 2002; I looked up there at the mountain range and visualised the sort of developments I have seen in the South of France, Mallorca, and Key Biscayne and so on. I was determined that I was going to build similar communities here which could be better than them avoiding many of the mistakes these countries made in a mad building boom. I wanted to build only the very best and I am now seeing that dream begin to come true.
